Welcome Term II

Ola and Buenos dias everyone...

Well most teachers were on leave [definitely!] and some had to work too [boo!] and then again... that's what keeps SRM going right? Wow... 10 days of holidays went by in a jiffy huh? :) Now we are already in our 2nd Term... So what happened during the school holidays?

First off, the big issue! :) EARTH HOUR! :) Many asked "What is Earth Hour?"

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

SRM and its' teachers played their part for Earth Hour in support against Global Climate Change! :) Did you play your role? ;)

Take care all.. will be back active starting today... till then take care...

Staff Development : Mengatam Padi

One day a GB decided to take his staff out on a development afternoon.. Thinking 'Why not bawa mengatam guru-guru saya ani?" and so, the task of dragging his teachers out happened! :)

Not all attended the afternoon session due to health problems and some personal problems, but others stayed and watched in awe of how the locals in Merangking 'mengatam padi'... It was a fun afternoon for most teachers because it's a once in a lifetime experience.. and most were 'first timers' too... :) Trip towards the place was honestly 'disturbing' but heading back was 'fun'.. going to we had to go through the flood waters knee high level and teachers were advised to use boots earlier by GB.Heading there we met with heavy downpour thus stopped by at a hut to wait it out. Cikgu Jamal taught us how to use the 'katam' and then teachers were of to 'mengatam' on their own... :) Not even the the murky waters can stop those teachers from doing what they did... :)

The session ended at 3.30pm and we headed back and was invited to Penghulu Bersara Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah Sambang's home for a rest and refreshments. Teachers can't stop talking about the fun of mengatam padi and look back at pictures taken... All in all, everyone including our dear GB, had a fun afternoon away from the office... :)

Ok all.. thank you for reading and we'll be back for more updates on SRM's blog.. till then take care...

SR Merangking held their National Day Celebration on 28th February. Day started off with singing the National Anthem followed by reading the Pledge of Independence lead by SRM's Head Prefect, Md Zulhilnnie bin Raimey, of Year 6. The function was hosted by our very Cikgu Den Fadly bin Jawawi. After reading the pledge, parents, guests and students were lead to respective classrooms for various activities which included:

These were a few out of many activities done, while parents were prepared to answer written quiz and some showed off their writing skills in Jawi. :)

After all activities were done, everyone was lead to the garage for a one time performance of choir of 'Tanahairku' by students of SR Merangking [even those cute lil ones!] ... then it was a prize giving ceremony fo the winners of the activities done earlier then highlight of the day.. MAKAN!! :)
